Welcome in 2014

After a very busy and successful 2013 – which we sent off with quite a flourish – we’re now busy again at the Forest with the start of our holiday program plus Chinese New Year Celebrations.

If you haven’t yet discovered the delights of the Australian Rainforest Sanctuary – locally known as the Forest of Tranquility – then we encourage you to do so in 2014.  We’re based at Ourimbah, on the Central Coast of NSW and are committed to the care of and education for our environment.  The Forest is a wonderful place for getting close to Australia’s rare native flora and fauna, a meditative space, a way to get away from the stress of everyday life and commune with nature.

SEASON OPENS EARLY

We’re so excited here in the Forest because the first of the fireflies have Creekemerged already – they must have been excited too!

Our 2013 Firefly Season opens this weekend NOVEMBER 9 and we have lots of celebrations planned until it finishes on Sunday December 21. Firefly Magic is a unique festival at the Australian Rainforest Sanctuary which is also known locally as the Forest of Tranquility.   Unfortunately, Australia also had an early start to its bushfire season with a hotter than expected Spring.  This has resulted in long periods of dry conditions and heavy smoke in the air as fires are battled and burn-offs begin.  Because of this, our Wizard Costume event scheduled for the opening weekend has been re-scheduled to the closing weekend.

Throughout the season there will be musical evenings and workshop activities happening and we suggest that you check with us before planning your visit to find out what’s on – or what may be rescheduled due to weather conditions.

That enchanting hour between day and night is when creatures of the forest stir from their afternoon slumbers and venture out to play.  The Fireflies come out at Dusk and like humidity. However they do vary nightly, so we suggest the evening is deemed an opportunity for a twilight stroll and evening picnic. A torch is recommended – for footsteps – not for viewing.

Firefly Magic Entry Prices ( excluding Sat Nights) :
Adult $30.00
Pension Card Concession $15.00 Children $15.00
Family (2 adults, 2 children) $65.00

Local weather variabilities make bookings essential for Firefly Magic – (02) 4362 1855 or email us at info@forestoftranquility.com

FIRING UP IN NOVEMBER

Mid November to mid December is an exciting time of the year at the Forest ….. it’s FIREFLY SEASON.

This is the mating season for the Atyphella lychnus  or Firefly and there’s always a spectacular show in this beautiful setting.   Of course, the numbers of fireflies will vary each year depending on natural influences such as rainfall, humidity, and temperature.  But after dark, in the Forest, regardless of numbers, you won’t be disappointed with this amazing natural light show.

You will need to book if you’re coming along and you can do that via the website.  It’s important to wear walking shoes and to carry a torch [for footsteps only].  Early Bird tickets are available – simply contact us via email:  fireflies@forestoftranquility.com

Another World

Welcome to the Australian Rainforest Sanctuary also known locally as the Forest of Tranquility.

We are an absolutely unique place located on the Central Coast in NSW.  For overseas visitors, we provide an exceptional experience unavailable anywhere else in Australia within easy access from the country’s primary tourist destination, Sydney.  Here you will find a convergence of species, from the tropical north and the south of the continent, co-existing together in this particular rainforest.IMG_0601

According to our Aboriginal visitors, the forest has a very strong feminine energy – it embraces you.  It is here that you will find those unique sounds and calls that belong only to Australia. It is here that you will see the almost last remaining Red Cedar tree in Australia.  With rainforests across the globe being decimated at an alarming rate, here is your chance to learn, enjoy, experience, and understand just how valuable this special place truly is.

Please explore this site to learn more ….and check back periodically – better yet, become a follower of the site [its free] – because it is a dynamic site with new information being added regularly
