A WALK IN OUR AUTUMN FOREST

It’s Autumn in NSW and there’s a whole lot of exciting new things to see here in the Forest.

Our Forest changes with the seasons and Autumn is the time to discover our fascinating fungi!   Every day sees new and different types appear along the Forest pathways, in a variety of colours and shapes;  Our Lyrebirds love the moist conditions, too, as they bring lots of worms (their favourite food!) closer to the surface of the soil beneath the leaf mulch; Small reptiles are hunting out the last of the warm places before their winter sleep time so we may discover some Dragons in the Forest!; Some of our bush food plants, such as the Lilli Pilli, are beginning to fruit while others, like Rubus, use this time of year as a growth period due to the abundance of recent rains; More rain means a healthy creek system with many water bugs providing food for the native fish species to be found in the Forest, not to mention the platypus!

There are so many things to discover in the Forest! The best way to see it is on a guided walk with our award-winning eco-tour naturalist, Jeannie Lawson. There are two walks being conducted during the April school holidays – Thursday 17th and Thursday 24th – at 1pm. The cost of a guided walk is just $5 per person [separate to Forest entry.] Bookings essential as places are limited.

Welcome in 2014

After a very busy and successful 2013 – which we sent off with quite a flourish – we’re now busy again at the Forest with the start of our holiday program plus Chinese New Year Celebrations.

If you haven’t yet discovered the delights of the Australian Rainforest Sanctuary – locally known as the Forest of Tranquility – then we encourage you to do so in 2014.  We’re based at Ourimbah, on the Central Coast of NSW and are committed to the care of and education for our environment.  The Forest is a wonderful place for getting close to Australia’s rare native flora and fauna, a meditative space, a way to get away from the stress of everyday life and commune with nature.

Here is a summary of our events and activities through January and February:

SEASON OPENS EARLY

We’re so excited here in the Forest because the first of the fireflies have Creekemerged already – they must have been excited too!

Our 2013 Firefly Season opens this weekend NOVEMBER 9 and we have lots of celebrations planned until it finishes on Sunday December 21. Firefly Magic is a unique festival at the Australian Rainforest Sanctuary which is also known locally as the Forest of Tranquility.   Unfortunately, Australia also had an early start to its bushfire season with a hotter than expected Spring.  This has resulted in long periods of dry conditions and heavy smoke in the air as fires are battled and burn-offs begin.  Because of this, our Wizard Costume event scheduled for the opening weekend has been re-scheduled to the closing weekend.

Throughout the season there will be musical evenings and workshop activities happening and we suggest that you check with us before planning your visit to find out what’s on – or what may be rescheduled due to weather conditions.

That enchanting hour between day and night is when creatures of the forest stir from their afternoon slumbers and venture out to play.  The Fireflies come out at Dusk and like humidity. However they do vary nightly, so we suggest the evening is deemed an opportunity for a twilight stroll and evening picnic. A torch is recommended – for footsteps – not for viewing.

Firefly Magic Entry Prices ( excluding Sat Nights) :
Adult $30.00
Pension Card Concession $15.00 Children $15.00
Family (2 adults, 2 children) $65.00

Local weather variabilities make bookings essential for Firefly Magic – (02) 4362 1855 or email us at info@forestoftranquility.com
